Home Up What We Do Who We Are Meetings Planning County & District Other Councillors F.O.I. Annual Report Minutes

WHAT WE DO
The Civil Parish is the most local unit of Local Government, and the Parish Council is the democratically accountable tier of government closest to the people. Councillors all come from the local community, and Canwick Parish Council works extremely hard to promote the village and improve the quality of life for its residents. (It is not an ecclesiastical parish of the Church of England, details of which can be found in the pages on Canwick Church .)

The Council has many specific powers and duties established by parliament over the years. Key areas include reviewing planning applications, and a range of environment, transport and leisure issues. Just as important, the Council is consulted on most aspects of the work done by North Kesteven District and Lincolnshire County Councils, and by central government.

The Council itself has been greatly modernised in the past few years. Individual councillors are now tasked with particular areas of responsibility, and everyone has worked hard to develop good working relationships with the officials and councillors at District and County level. By working closely with the District and County councils on a regular basis on all aspects affecting the village, we are already delivering real improvements to the services Canwick receives.
